Terms to Know
Bead Board - Paneling that incorporates beading. The styling adds texture to flat panels. It can be further accentuated by the use of a glaze finish.
Adjustable Shelves - these come with pre-drilled holes and movable stoppers so that shelves can be set in a wide range of heights.
Arch - this is a decorative element at the top frame of the panel of a door. It is usually shaped in a curve.
Crown Molding - this is the decorative molding that is usually applied to the tops of cabinets or shelves.
Dovetail joints - these are strong joints that are formed by interlocking tenons and mortises. It is shaped much like a bird’s tail spread out (which is where the joint gets its name). It resists being pulled apart in all directions except one.
Toe kick - this is the molding that is used to cover the open spaces under the kitchen cabinets (from the cabinet to the floor).
Wood grain - this is the pattern or texture that is produced in wood. Each variety of wood has a different natural wood grain that can be enhanced by using different finishes and different colors.
